A project of The Historic New Orleans Collection
The Collins C. Diboll Vieux Carré Digital Survey (VCS) is an extensive compilation of data on every individual lot and structure within the French Quarter, from the French colonial period to the present. Drawing on archival resources from across the country and abroad, the survey brings together maps, site plans, images, chains of title, property records, photographs, newspaper clippings, and more in a searchable database. Users can search by keyword, owner name, address, architectural rating, or whether the owner was a free person of color. The VCS began as a pilot study conducted in the 1960s by the Louisiana Landmarks Society and the Vieux Carré Commission. Its aim is to strengthen French Quarter preservation by providing easy-to-access information about architectural and land-use history within the district.
