Four lots of ground situated in this City facing the Passage de la Bourse (Exchange Passage) designated by the Nos. 57, 58, 59 and 60 on a plan drawn July 24, 1836, by Joseph Pilie, Surveyor of the Third Municipality. No. 57 forms the corner and has 17' 4" 7''' front on that said passage and 21' 8" 4''' of depth on the side of No. 58 and 17' 4" 7''' on the rear line. Nos. 58, 59 and 60 each measure 16' on the said passage and 21' 8" 4''' in depth between parallel lines. The lots are bounded in the rear by property of Isaac T. Preston. The said lots are sold under the following conditions: "Conforming to the conditions of the public sale and after an ordinance of the City Council, the Passage herein above mentioned is reserved for the use of pedestrians and is to be paved in flat stone at the expense of the purchasers who are to elevate their buildings, in conformity with the said plan exhibited at the Exchange, and submitted to the purchasers at the time of the sale. The said plan is deposited in this office for reference. (Theo. Seghers, 1837). Excluded from these lots or sites are stables, iron-works, soap factories and other establishments of this kind, the purchasers will have the right to construct the buildings in granite, but if not, the walls in all cases are to be of imitation white granite. This sale was made at Hewletts's Exchange at Chartres and St. Louis streets, by Hewlett W. Bright, auctioneer."

The building across from 620 Conti was designed only a few years later. They [618 and 620 Conti] are similar in style. 618 Conti was designed by De Pouilly as his original sketch is included but there is no evidence as to the architect of 620 Conti.
