Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:

Green with blue stripes to blue. A portion of Exchange Alley's uniform arcade, as planned in 1837 by J.N.B: de Pouilly. This building, which actually consists of two, two-bay buildings that are divided down the middle by an arched corridor, is marred today by inappropriate millwork and fire escapes. It was owned by Rene De Gas (the brother of Edgar Degas), briefly by Edgar Degas, and also housed the office of the artist-architect Adrien Persac. [N.B: The Vieux Carré Commission evaluations give this address as 307-311 Exchange Alley and the next lot's as 313-315 Exchange. However, the Sanborn Map shows the two lots as having the addresses 309-313 and 315 (understood), respectively; the current (2009) owners use the addresses 311(-313) and 315, respectively.]
