Square: 63 Lot Number: 11274
Main building -- green; Conti Street side and rear infill -- brown. This c. 1859 masonry 3 1/2-story double building is a late example of a classical style building which still follows the Creole tradition of a central passageway. The ground floor bay windows date from within the past 25 years.

Auguste Coudreau House
Erected 1859-1860
Louis Folliet, architect and builder
Joseph Derbes, Jr., builder, completed the structure
Erected for Auguste Coudreau on a site purchased by him in 1859 from C. E. Schmidt, probably a grandson of Dominique Seghers who had bought the property in 1827 from the heirs of Benjamin Farrar. Farrar had acquired it from Richard Butler of Ormond Plantation who bought it in 1817 and had a house erected upon it by Henry S. Latrobe, architect, who was engaged in the project at the time of his death from yellow fever, September 3, 1817.
It is probably that some of the materials, including doors, mantels, etc. from this earlier house were incorporated in the house built in 1859. The courtyard has been covered over, and the first floor shop fronts have been extensively remodeled. In May 1817 Richard Butler had bought the property from Thomas L. Harmon who a month before had bought it from the "Banque de la Louisiane." The bank had acquired it in April 1816 from William Nott.
In the inventory of Benjamin Farrar's estate filed in April 1826, the property was described as containing a "two story brick dwelling house and all the other buildings and improvements --- at present occupied by Messrs. Milne & Co." When sold to Seghers in 1827 it was described as "being in need of extensive repairs."
