Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:
No change -- green. See 526 Royal. One in a row of 3, 3-story elegant originally plastered, painted and penciled brick stores and semi-attached service buildings designed by William Brand in 1834 for merchant Hart Shiff. These stuccoed buildings have hung sash windows with granite lintels and sills, side passageways and originally had a balcony at the second and third levels. The balconies on 526 and 528 were reconstructed in a 1977 renovation. This, the third in the row, still misses its balconies.
