Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:

Proposed change: green with blue stripes to green. This c. 1811 massive 2-story masonry building, which was constructed for Nicholas Jean Pierre, a brick manufacturer from Bayou St. John, has an attached service ell, which with the building creates an interior courtyard. Sanborn Maps indicate two interior passageways from each of the fronting streets. The building's roofline -- a steeply pitched hip with a chamfered corner -- suggests its early age. The iron balcony was added, as probably were the dormers, in an 1838 remodeling.

"...it was erected in 1811 by Jean Balthazard Georges. Our title search showed that the next owner was Francois Joseph Lebreton d'Orgenory. He sold the place in 1816 to Joseph Cheyron who willed it to his daughter Bernardine, the wife of Jean Blatrier. In 1838 he sold the corner store to Argato Antonio Villalobas, Spanish Consul, who disposed of it in 1845 to Arnold Bodin. An interesting feature about the construction of this building is that the joists are fastened together with wooden pegs."
