"LUNAR OBSERVATION TAUGHT. As there are probably many young Gentlemen both in the Navy and Merchants' Service, now in this city, who may wish to become acquainted with the practical method of finding the Longitude by means of Lunar Observations, Mr. J. Lambert hereby gives notice to all those who have such a laudable disposition, that when four gentlemen appear to be ready to take lessons on the subject, he will open an Evening or Morning School for the purpose of teaching them the best extant and he engages to make those who are tolerably conversant in Logarithms, sufficiently acquainted with them to determine the position of the ship (at any time when the observations can be taken) in the course of fifteen days - and his charge will be only Twelve Dollars for this instruction. Should the parties wish to know the method of finding the Latitude, or the Meridian altitudes of Moon or Stars it will be added gratis; together with that of finding the Variations of the Compass, by Amplitude or Azimuth.
