Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:

No change: green. An 1831 building contract between John McCleary, builder, and John Bourdain, owner, called for a "2-story brick house and a 2-story back building" on this property. A notarial drawing from 1846 shows the extant building as a fine, Federal-style residence, which then had a simple balcony, an arched side-entrance with transom, pilasters, paneled door, brick pained red with long bands of white, and a spacious, deep side yard on the Burgundy-side, which could be viewed from a second- and third-floor side-balcony. [N.B. At the rear of this lot, in the center of the square, there are four new condominium structures. These are designed to look like traditional, detached serviced buildings; and they are not yet rated by the Vieux Carré Commission.]
