Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:

No change: green. A nice, double, 1½-story Creole cottage with detached, two-story kitchen. The detailing includes well-proportioned dormers, with round-headed glazing and wide moldings that outline the contours of the front façade. From 1808-1825, this block of Dumaine belonged to Julian Poydras and was the site of a brick residence and other assorted wooden dependencies.

Citations

"Here is a classical example of the Creole cottage, a type of dwelling that was always practical and popular in the Vieux Carré. Made of brick between posts and covered with a weatherproofing coat of plaster-cement, this house is framed with the broad flat molding characteristic of the earlier cottages. Its simple doors and windows and steeply pitched roof also bespeak its age. Tucked away behind high walls there is a delightful patio-garden here where Creoles and present-day owners alike have enjoyed indoor-outdoor living.

This land was held in a block-long estate by French and Spanish families throughout much of the eighteenth century. It was not until the enterprising real-estate promoter, Julien Poydras, bought it in 1808 that the land was subdivided and present day building was begun."
