Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:
Existing rating: main building -- green; rear additions and rear shed -- brown to new rating: main -- green; rear shed -- brown. In 1882 the German architect Albert Diettel designed this 2-story brick townhouse for the German blacksmith-turned-carriage-maker George Fruh and his milliner wife, whose shop was on the ground floor. The Italianate building has a side-hall recessed entrance with pilasters and entablature and other openings with segmental openings. Note: the lack of any sort of service building or ell.
