Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:

Old rating: two buildings in front of lot -- yellow with green stripes; buildings in between and at rear of lot -- brown; new rating: two buildings in front of lot -- green; extreme rear shed -- orange. These two masonry buildings, which were constructed in 1832 for Samuel Kohn by J.M. Fernandez, were renovated in the 1970s for use as the Gallier House's Complex exhibition and office areas. The brown-rated infill, remaining from the period when the buildings housed a mineral water bottling company, was demolished at the time of the renovation.

— Notarial Act (New Orleans Notarial Archives)
Author: Louis T. Caire, N.P. Date: Wednesday, August 1st 1832

"AUCTION SALE... on the 5th of January, 1833... will be sold the lease of a property situated in Royal Street between Bayou and Ursulines Streets. The buildings are two-story houses on Royal with two storehouses on the ground floor extending on each side to the back part of the lot which is 150 feet in depth, the whole is new, built with brick and covered with slate. Those stores have been used as livery stables but might be appropriated to the storing of cotton, tobacco, &. The lease has to run 2 years and 5 months from the 1st of January 1833."

— Louisiana Courier
Date: Friday, January 4th 1833

"Pablo and Company, Mineral Water Manufacturers 270 and 272 (late 334 and 336) Royal... they have refitted their establishment and introduced the latest improvements."

— New Orleans City Directory
Date: Friday, January 1st 1869

"But the only fragments of the barracks building that are still positively recognizable are the arched structures at Nos. 270 and 272 Royal Street, occupied now, alas! by a prosaic seltzer factory. The spacious cavalry stables now shelter vulgar mules, and factory wagons protrude their shafts from the mouths of the low, broad archways under which once glimmered the brazen artillery of the King of Spain."
