Vieux Carré Commission Evaluation:
[N.B. At the time that the chains of titles were abstracted for the VCS, the three buildings at 1131-1133 Burgundy, 1135 Burgundy and 1137-1141 Burgundy belonged to the same lot (Lot 23151).] 1131-1133 Burgundy. Green : to : pink. This is a c. 1860, 3-story, brick townhouse, which has the unusual French Quarter features of a recessed side-entrance with stairs which lead up to the main floor. This stairway was altered in the 20th century. The building's entrance has Greek Revival millwork, and the "basement level" on the front façade has small openings with iron grilles. 1135 Burgundy. No change: brown. This is a small, 2-story brick structure which was built in the 1920s on the side-yard of 1131-1133 Burgundy. The building is now stuccoed. 1137-1141 Burgundy. No change: main -- green; rear additions -- brown. This is a c. 1825, brick Creole cottage, which is divided into three living units. Each unit consists of two bays (or one door and one short window). Note the unusual granite "keystones" over each opening. The additions at the rear of the property are 20th century constructions.
